Stripe is an American technology company focused on e-commerce. Shopify has a partnership that allows Stripe to offer direct checkout, meaning it can accept card payments without leaving the checkout.

Until a year ago, Stripe hadn't officially launched in Latin America. If you wanted to use its payment processor in your store, you had to apply for an account. The Stripe Spanish team then decided whether or not to grant you an account. But it wasn't until a few months ago (without warning) that they opened offices in Mexico City along with a beta program for Mexico.
At doos studio, we ran a beta test of this with an installation on a Shopify store. And although it had limited features, the payment module worked just like it does in the United States or Canada, that is, as a direct checkout . Making it the second payment processor of its kind in our country (Conekta being the first).
Yesterday, Stripe officially announced its presence in our country via email. It adds payments at OXXO and an anti-fraud system (at an additional cost) through Radar (developed by them), and offers the option to activate your account in just a few minutes.
Another benefit is the ability to accept up to 126 currencies , making Stripe a great option for stores that sell internationally.
But what good is this news?
In Mexico, there's a wide range of payment gateways that compete directly with Stripe, such as Conekta, Openpay, and Mercado Pago, among others. But what sets this processor apart from the others?
As Shopify Partners, we are committed to offering all our merchants the best solutions for their business, but many times these are limited to the prior development of an app.
(Although we offer customized solutions to avoid using an app, these developments can often take longer than you might expect.)
Many apps that address advanced payment issues (such as discounts, recurring payments, etc.) only work with Stripe, limiting their compatibility in Mexico and Latin America. With the launch of this gateway, app compatibility in Mexico has grown significantly (including POS integrations).
Fresh news
Shopify Payments Mexico is now officially available!
This means that, from now on, entrepreneurs and business owners in Mexico will be able to manage their collections and payments directly on the Shopify platform itself, without having to use external payment gateways. Learn how to set up Shopify Payments for your online store.

But what does this have to do with Stripe? Shopify Payments uses Stripe's gateway, and this could pave the way for this other gateway to be available in Mexico.
Commissions
Their fees will be 3.6% + 3 MXN per transaction. We don't yet know if this fee also applies to payments at OXXO.
