Stripe is an American technology company focused on electronic commerce. Shopify has a Partnership that gives Stripe the possibility of having a direct Checkout, that is, accepting card payments without leaving the Checkout.
Until a year ago, Stripe had not officially entered Latin America. If you wanted to use their payment processor in your store, you had to request your account. The Stripe en Español team already decided whether or not to give you the account. But it was not until a few months ago (without notice) that they opened offices in CDMX along with a beta program for Mexico.
At doos studio we tested this beta with an installation in a Shopify store. And although with limited functions, the payment module worked the same as in the United States or Canada, that is, as a direct Checkout . Making it the second payment processor of this style in our country (Conekta being the first).
Yesterday, through an email, Stripe made its presence in our country official. Adding payments in OXXO and an anti-fraud system (with extra cost) through Radar (developed by them), in addition to offering the ability to activate your account in a couple of minutes.
Another benefit is the ability to accept up to 126 types of currency , making Stripe an excellent option for stores that sell internationally.
But what's good about this news?
In Mexico there is a wide catalog of payment gateways that compete directly with Stripe, such as Conekta, Openpay, Mercado Pago, among others. But what is the differentiator of this processor compared to the others?
As Shopify Partners, we are committed to offering all our merchants the best solutions for their business, but many times these are limited to the prior development of an app.
(Although we offer personalized solutions to avoid the use of an app, many times these developments can take more time than you might have).
Many apps that solve advanced issues related to payments (such as discounts, recurring payments, etc.) only work with Stripe, limiting their compatibility in Mexico and Latin America. With the launch of this gateway, the compatibility of apps in Mexico grows considerably (including integrations for POS).
Will we have Shopify Payments soon?
Shopify Payments is the payment gateway developed by Shopify currently available in the USA, Canada, UK, Australia, Denmark, Germany, China, Japan, Ireland, Holland, Singapore, New Zealand and Spain. The main advantage is that you can manage your payments from the same platform, in addition to having Shopify's anti-fraud system.
But what does it have to do with Stripe? Shopify Payments uses the Stripe Gateway and this may open the door to having this other gateway already available in Mexico.
commissions
Your commissions will be 3.6% + 3 MXN per transaction. We still do not know if this commission also applies to payments in OXXO.
